Base Support is the class that prepares you to deploy with WASART! (This training is mandatory for deployment in any capacity.)
Base Support is designed to give you the basic skills, knowledge and understanding, to deploy in any non-animal-handling support capacity. On top of that you’ll be hanging out with both experienced and new WASART members ready to help you get as much as possible out of the training, and have fun while doing it!
Links to the training segments will be provided before the class. This is an in-person training, currently there are no online sessions.
- How WASART Works
- Preparing to Deploy
- Legalities of deploying
- Personal Gear requirements (including show & tell!)
- Basic Communications
- Basic Risk Assessment
The Member Resources page includes a list of additional requirements like FEMA training, CPR, and vaccinations needed before you can actually be deployed. These can be taken care of on your own time, before or after taking Base training.
Once you’ve taken Base Support training, Operations Support — typically offered the following day — is your next step. Operations support including training in animal handling and additional skills using during deployments. Click here for more.
We strongly encourage you to take the next available offering of Base Support so as to be able to deploy with WASART as soon as is possible.
Base Support is offered twice a year, generally north(ish) in the Spring (most recently at Remlinger Farms in Carnation), and south(ish) in the Fall (often Vetter Farm, in Buckley).
